Maple at 5 months old...and over 40 pounds!

13 weeks old

 This is our new puppy, Maple. Maple is an American Rough Collie and is 13 weeks old (born August 13, 2002).  He comes from a long line of Canadian and American Champions.  We purchased maple from Highlandblue Collies in Toronto, a wonderful breeder.  Maple is a Sable Merle with blue eyes.   I've not seen this coloring on a Collie too often.

Oh which puppy to choose???  Maple or Tutu??

We brought Maple home when he was just 9 weeks old.  He was a dream right from the start.  He slept through the night, and the next day learned in one hour to walk on a leash.  He learned to "sit" in 5 minutes.  He is affectionate, loyal, loves kids, and has never jumped up on anyone.  (I have had Labarador Retrievers all my life, so this is a first!)

I grew up reading Albert Payson Terhune books.  APT was a famous author of dog books, mainly the adventures of his favorite collies.  Albert Payson Terhune instilled a love of dogs in many a young child and adult, myself included.  You may recall such classics as Lad a Dog, Treve, Bruce, Wolf, Gray Dawn or A Dog Named Chips.  If you have a chance, hop on down to the library and pick up a copy :)   You can also find many copies on Ebay!
